How to find an Invisalign® doctor

So, you’ve decided to transform your smile and boost your confidence with Invisalign aligners. Congratulations! You are well on your way to investing in the best version of yourself.

Now that you’ve taken the first step towards your dream smile, it’s time to find the perfect doctor to support you through treatment. Smile transformation is not a solo adventure. You want the right orthodontist to help you through every phase of treatment – one whose expertise, care, and approach align with your specific needs.

If you’re straightening your teeth, support from a dentist or orthodontist is critical

When beginning treatment, it might be tempting to wonder if you need professional help at all. You will. Proper supervision from a dental health professional, such as a dentist or orthodontist, is indispensable. Dentists and orthodontists provide essential quality control to ensure treatment is safe and effective.1 Without them, you could be at risk for issues like bone loss, receding gums, bite damage, jaw pain, and more.

Consider location when selecting a dentist or orthodontist

Unless you want to dash across town to make your appointments, finding a doctor near your home, work, or school will be important. Invisalign’s Find a Doctor Tool offers in-depth details about highly trained orthodontists in any area you specify.

With the Find a Doctor tool, you can find an Invisalign-trained provider nearby and you can narrow your search by filtering for doctors who accepts your dental insurance, offer complementary consultations, have financing options, speaks your language, or specializes in treating children.

You can also select a physician with whom you feel comfortable by reviewing their profiles, which include information about their education, professional affiliations, photographs of their office, and a video showcasing the doctor and their practice.

Does my orthodontist accept my insurance?

Many dental insurance plans cover Invisalign treatment the same way they cover braces. If you’re curious if a specific dentist or orthodontist accepts your insurance, just ask them. You can schedule a consultation and discuss it during your appointment, or you can call the office, and they should be able to provide you with all the details.

Depending on your plan, your insurer may pay a certain percentage of your treatment, or a certain dollar amount.

Working with your doctor to pay for Invisalign without insurance

Many dentists and orthodontists offer a wide range of options to pay for Invisalign treatment without insurance.

Monthly payment plans

Orthodontists often offer flexible plans, letting you pay for your treatment in monthly installments over a set period. Plans may differ, but they often involve setting up a financing agreement with your orthodontist and making a down payment. Then you’ll make monthly payments for the duration of the plan. Discuss the details with your orthodontist. Your orthodontist can walk you through your options for payment terms, the number of monthly installments, and any interest or fees involved.

Flexible spending accounts and health savings accounts

Flexible spending accounts (FSAs) and health savings accounts (HSAs) are added options to consider when financing aligners or braces. These accounts let you set aside pre-tax dollars for eligible medical expenses, including orthodontic treatment. FSAs and HSAs can help you save on Invisalign aligners by letting you pay for them with untaxed income. Consult your employer or financial advisor to figure out eligibility for these accounts and to understand their guidelines and limitations.

What to expect during your consultation

During the initial consultation, the doctor will conduct a 3D scan of your teeth and evaluate your treatment needs. The doctor will then inform you of the cost and estimated duration of the treatment. As each case is unique, only a doctor can determine the specific costs and timeframe for treatment. The doctor will address any questions you have and may provide payment options to make the treatment more manageable.
