Meet Amelia

Colorado

When 14-year-old Amelia learned about shortages of crucial pieces of Personal Protective Equipment, she took matters into her own hands. Using her dad’s 3D printer – and eventually 3 other printers as production increased – she began printing and packaging plastic headbands for face shields that would go to first responders and medical workers. She printed over 1,200 headbands, partnering with Make4COVID to distribute them to her local community.

IN AMELIA’S OWN WORDS

“I made a difference by providing a product that first responders and health care workers could use to protect themselves from this dangerous virus.”

MORE ON HOW AMELIA IS CHANGING THE WORLD

  • Printed over 500 ear savers for a local fire department to minimize the effects of wearing a mask for a full shift

  • Amelia also printed valve adapters to turn scuba masks into pre-ventilators for COVID patients

  • In the future Amelia, would like to design medical prosthetics for humans or animals and create assistive products for people with disabilities

WHAT OTHERS SAID

“She generously donated enough of these headbands to allow each of our frontline personnel to have one while we were navigating how to work long shifts wearing cumbersome PPE and masks.”

WHAT OTHERS SAID

“In a time when our traditional supply chains couldn’t reach our front-line workers, Amelia took it upon herself to be a proactive part of the solution.”
