WINNER SPOTLIGHT

Meet Abby

North Carolina

Abigail’s Sustainable Hunger Initiative (SHI) was already thriving when the pandemic struck. In the face of mounting food insecurity, Abigail decided to go big and continue helping her community during such a difficult time. In 2020, SHI grew their volunteer base by hundreds and added more than 200 low-income families to their food donation program. SHI partnered with 5 new ministries and pantries to serve the community, especially the elderly. All of this was done while managing volunteers digitally, implementing new cleaning practices and getting outside safely.

IN ABBY'S OWN WORDS

“Last year, I developed ways to expand SHI and improve the lives of as many people as possible in my community.”
