Frequently Asked Questions

1
What is Invisalign G8 with SmartForce aligner activation?

Invisalign G8 with SmartForce aligner activation is the newest series of biomechanical innovations for Invisalign treatment informed by tooth movements from millions of patients treated with Invisalign clear aligners. The solution focuses on improving deep bite, crowding, and cross bite cases. These cases are improved by adding the aligner activation feature to aide in anterior intrusion for deep bite cases and posterior arch expansion for crowding and cross bite cases.

2
What is SmartForce® aligner activation?

With SmartForce aligner activation, select areas on the aligner surfaces are specifically contoured to apply forces to the tooth surface in the proper direction to produce the desired movement and minimize unwanted movements. SmartForce aligner activation takes advantage of full aligner coverage of teeth to create strategic contact areas for greater control. It works synergistically with previously introduced SmartForce features.

3
Is Invisalign G8 a force-driven system or a displacement driven system?

Invisalign G8 is a force-driven system.

4
What are the major differences between a force driven system and a displacement driven system?

In a force-driven system, the aligner is shaped so that when inserted, it stretches and applies the desired forces to the surface of the tooth, resulting in the desired tooth movement. In a displacement-driven system, the tooth position is fabricated in the aligner and the tooth moves (is displaced) to that next position.

5
What Invisalign products will have SmartForce aligner activation?

SmartForce aligner activation will be applied across all of our aligner products going forward. Aligner activation was introduced previously in limited applications with Invisalign G6, G7 and Invisalign First. Invisalign G8 is the first time that aligner activation will be broadly applied to treat some of the most prevalent movements and malocclusions.

6
What are the criteria for having Invisalign G8 features applied to a case?

Invisalign G8 features will be added based upon triggers including correction of crowding, crossbite, or deep bite issues. There is no additional work or change in doctor workflow required to get Invisalign G8 features.

7
How will I know that Invisalign G8 with SmartForce aligner activation has been added to a case in the ClinCheck® software?

Invisalign G8 features will be added based upon triggers including correction of crowding, crossbite, or deep bite issues. There is no additional work or change in doctor workflow required to get Invisalign G8 features.

8
Who do I contact if I have questions about Invisalign G8 features?

Please reach out to your Align representative with questions concerning Invisalign G8 features. You can also call the customer support number where a representative will be happy to help you.
